High ability and additional needs are not mutually exclusive.
Twice-exceptional (2e) learners are pupils who are both academically able — or show high potential — and have a co-occurring SEND, sensory, physical, or social-emotional need. Their giftedness can mask their need; their need can mask their giftedness. They are routinely missed by systems that force a choice.
How OMNIA holds both truths
- A structurally separate AG&T plan type sits alongside SEND plans in the plan builder. It uses enrichment-framed sections (strengths, extension provision, challenge targets, wider opportunities) — never deficit framing. Available on every tier.
- Custom terminology per school — call it "More Able", "HPA", "Scholars", or whatever your community already uses.
- An auto-applied 2e flag the moment a pupil holds both an active SEND plan and an active AG&T plan. Sticky once identified: only a SENCo or inclusion lead can clear it.
- A unified pupil profile that surfaces both sides side-by-side, with a clear 2e badge.
- Dual SEND and AG&T rails on the provision map so extension provision is visible alongside targeted intervention — never collapsed into one register.
- Cohort reporting on the Connected tier: need × ability cross-tab, identification trend, and provision-balance views.
“Every twice-exceptional learner deserves a plan that holds both truths at once.”
