The most common questions we get are also the ones that are hardest to Google without hitting either a legal-code wall of text or a vendor landing page. What actually is an EHCP. What a SEN Support Plan should contain. Whether an IEP and a SEN Support Plan are the same thing (they mostly are, but the difference matters). What the graduated response looks like in practice, not in the Code of Practice's own wording.
So we wrote them. Nine short guides, each one written by a practising SENDCo, aimed at parents, class teachers, and newly-appointed SENCos who need the working answer rather than the statutory paragraph. No sign-up, no email harvest, no gated PDF.
The guides
EHCP
What an EHCP actually is, who qualifies, how the assessment process works, and how it differs from SEN Support.
Read the guideSEND Code of Practice
The 2015 statutory framework, in plain English, with the parts that matter for day-to-day decisions pulled out.
Read the guideGraduated response
Assess, Plan, Do, Review, what each stage actually looks like, and where schools most often skip a step.
Read the guideSEN Support Plan
What a SEN Support Plan should contain, who writes it, and what makes one useful rather than just compliant.
Read the guideIEP vs SEN Support Plan
Whether the two terms mean the same thing, where they don't, and which one your school should be using.
Read the guideProvision mapping
What provision mapping is for, what it isn't, and how to do it without a colour-coded spreadsheet that no one updates.
Read the guideSEMH
What Social, Emotional and Mental Health actually means as a SEND category, and how it's different from a behaviour problem.
Read the guideAccess arrangements
Exam access arrangements explained for parents, what's available, who decides, and what the evidence requirements are.
Read the guideReduced timetables and managed moves
When each is appropriate, what the safeguards are, and what parents and schools should agree in writing.
Read the guideIf there's a term or a process you'd like us to write up next, tell us. The guides that already exist all started as questions we kept being asked, and the list is nowhere near finished.
The guides live at /guides. Bookmark it, share it with a parent who's just been told their child needs a plan, or hand it to a teacher who's just picked up their first SEND caseload. Browse all guides
